Hey! everybody.

I am Punjabi but I like South Indian food as we were in Madras for 6 years.

Most of the Punjabis are fond of these dishes.

I like all the dishes like dosa, idli, sambhar, vada and I do prepare it.

What do you think of SOUTH INDIAN DISHES ?

If you want to prepare it yourself and for the first time I suggest U to bring mixture from the market to prepare it or now-a-days dosa and idli mixture comes in a pack that will be much better.
You can easily find instructions on the pack and can prepare yourself.

they were and are some of the favourites. they are worth a lot of pain to mothers to make it but it is great to enjoy it afterwards. i usually have idli or dosa with sambar for breakfast and vada or uttapam as a snack. i like some uppuma too. they are good with lassi for dinner. and chappathi is very common too. i like them for supper or for dinner. as for lunch we south indians cannot survive without rice like the north indians who have to have their rotis or they would burst. lemon rice, tamarind rice, tomato rice { i hate that}, curd rice {not just some yogurt but with some other spices and stuff}. and sweets are good too, like some milk sweets, and my favorite one is called 'dhamroot' they are fabulous. just feel like eating gallons of it. this is hard to find the best quality but if that is found then u would think other sweets are below it. ah too bad they remind me of my life in india when i was young. i would like to know the reactions of other people, especially north indians regarding any of the dishes or sweets i liked.

Miqsh you never told me that you eat dosas and stuffs. Well i have to admit i like dosas a lot. I cannot live without it. Seriously even now sometimes i eat it. Its crazy. South Indian foods are fantastic. THey have a different taste. Its not the same taste as north Indian foods. It is different.

I am not north Indian so i can't comment on your sweets. But i have never eaten any south Indian sweets. Seriously i thought that besides the bengalis no one in India eats sweets cause wherever i went they had sour curd which i hated. We bengalis eat sweet curd. It tastes havenly. But i knew there are many sweets in other parts of India which tastes equally good. Specially rabri is fantastic.

In the case of rice i think South and east India are in the same case. Bengalis can't live without rice. I can't understand why. TO say the truth i can't stay on roti for more then one meal. To us the real meal is when we eat rice. And a Bengali can't live without fish. Every meal they need fish. I hate fish though!!!.

You see the similarity Miqsh. North and West eats rotis and South and east eats rice.

North east eats chowmin or momos. That's their staple food.

MY liking in South Indian..... would u like to know it???
Every one here on this site have shown their liking for South Indian Dosas, Idlis, Uttapam but no one talked about south indian parantha.
U know parantha is prepared on hot tava from dough made of maida and ghee.
Fine dough is made. Then small paranthas by rolling the small balls are heated on hot tava. They are fried till they are crispy.
Then they are served with onion chutney and sabzi.

Its very delicious to eat it.

I can feel taste of it in my mouth while writing this article.
