Violence against women is a serious problem in our society (http://www.himachal.biz/directory/Society_and_Culture/) and the fear most women feel is a response to that reality. Crimes like eve-teasing, murders due to dowry, sexual harrassment, rapes are increasing day by day.

Violence against women crosses socio-economic lines, but low-income women may be more often trapped in abusive relationships because of a lack of financial resources and alternative housing arrangements.

Women (http://www.opendirectory.in/Society_and_Culture/Women/) do speak up, but psychological and social conditioning makes it doubly difficult for them to voice their anger. Women who speak out run the risk of being ridiculed, lampooned and called 'unwomanly'.

Government should take steps for women to feel safer. If they feel safer, they will feel less fear, so they will be able to participate in activities in society.

THat is seriously bad. We need to improve this condition and also remove anti-social people from the society who always are behind woman.

Megrisoft , this is not an exclusive problem ; in most soceities woman are abused
and this abuse has many shapes .
by the way , you have mentioned the solution
buliding (safe -homes) for those woman would protect them.

It has become very common to hear news about rape,harrassment and other violence related to women .
It is said that today women are no more engaged only in household tasks, she has achieved a status in the society and now she is a part of progessing
nation ,now she plays a role as a teacher,pilot,she is in hard and difficult services like army,navy,air force and others.
On one hand the responsibilities of a women have increased as today she is performing role as a good mother,wife,sister,all relations and even a role as an employee,like this she has to perform many duties towards home and society.and on the other hand she is being exploited in many ways.She is being harrassed by her in-laws and husband and is thrown into darkness of death.
In one way or the other women is continuously following prey to the voilence.
If soon proper steps will not be taken against the violence against women then the day is not far when there will be no women on earth.

I think police should be more vigilant during night and should be more efficient in arresting goons who were induldged in crime against women and children.

But you know, these days Police also involved in the crime against women. Policemen are for the security of people. How they protect us and we will trust them if they also involved in such crimes. Corruption in police also increasing day by day. Any faulter easily get bail or easily get out off the crime by paying huge amount of money to these policemen.
We have to stand together for out protection and safety. Donot depend on any other.

I feel forensic science plays an important role here especially in rape cases, one way to trap unknown rapist or suspect of cases is to educate the public the importance of reporting the crime, right after the assault. Here, forensic serology and DNA analysis plays an important role to trap the suspect and even identify the suspect. Justice served and more unsolved sexual assault cases can be reopened and solved. Good legal system and practice plays an inportant role as what we see in United States

Well one way we can stop this is if both the women's and other citizens take responsibility. I have mostly heard that when goons come and attack people there is hte whole city watching and doing nothing. Common you should go and help. If all those people come and help then goons are nothing.

Police shouldn't indulge in those crimes. if they do there should be immediate suspension.

Govt. should also take responsibility.

Its a serious problem in india..not in metropolitan cities but everywhere..we have to take steps from everyside..whether its from society or from police department..we cant say that womens are save in a crowd..recently a mob pounces on 2 girls and harrass them..so its not true..we need to change the perception of the society against womens..womens should be bold so that they can handle the situation as much as they can..
