The prices of computers and laptops are very high in India. Computers (http://www.indiabook.com/Computer_and_WWW/Software/) were supposed to help people in their lives and profession but at present time their prices are so high that a common man thinks twice before buying it. For the same reason the Internet (http://www.megrisoft.biz/) penetration in india is very low. With these conditions how can we suppose that computers will reach every home? At present there are few alternatives like simputer but it has very few features to compare it with desktop PCs.

In Cambridge, Mass., Nicholas Negroponte and his team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have been chipping away
at a long-held dream : producing a laptop so cheap that governments could afford to link every child in the world to the Internet.

Few months ago government of India unveiled a prototype of laptop, which would cost Rs 3000 to Rs 5000. It would help if India comes out with indigenous technology to develop such a low cost computers and laptops that will help not only India but also neighboring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Srilanka etc.

I think the price of computers dropped a lot in India. I think its like 19000 rupees. Yeah the new laptop is fantastic. The main good point about it is that the laptop is indigenously built.

The new laptop is going to cost $100 and in Indian market its cost would be less than Rs 4500/. This will be a special gift to school and university students who will be able to surf internet easily. As we all know internet has many good resources on internet on all topics so it will help them in studies. How these computers will display multimedia
is to be seen.

That's Great. Now in future you will see people with laptop with them at all time, surfing internet and doing their job work. Our country would be seen with laptops in everybody's hand. :D :D

Maybe it will replace the heavy school bags of children.... I will love to see that happen.. moreover instead of buying books they will be asked to download ebooks from http://www.ncert.nic.in. Also they will no more require any notebooks....

It will have many advantages
1) Less books means nature friendly.
2) Less burden for Parents too. Students will update their e-books themselves.
3) Even absent students will be able to e-mail their assignments in time to teacher.
4) It will also improve e-governance, when even a common man will be able to raise issues related to them.
5) Students will no longer fly paper planes in class.

Yes, the conclusion is that it's only matter of time when these computer will come in market. Indian government and also other developing countries have shown interest in these computers. It will specially benefit students.

But i see nothing about it doing in the near current fuuture...

even being at IITS and Enginnering college, (including my coll) we are not allowed to carry gizmos...

so i think India still has to undergo a lot before accepting those tech things....

what mean is the recent increase in the use f camera cell phones led to those ****(need not be mentioned, to be understood)...

so I guess te same would go in a similar fashion for education and stuff....

Yes, I agree with you.. but since these things have not become trends in india that's why these are not allowed... but IIIT's and IIM's allow laptop. These institutes even provide laptops to their students... and other institutes are to catch the trend.

Bill Gates While hobnobbing with the world's elite at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last week proposed an alternative to Nicholas Negroponte's vaunted $100 One Laptop Per Child program: cheap smartphones that could be used as computers. According to reports, both Gates and Microsoft CTO Craig J. Mundie talked up the idea of a specially designed smartphone that could be connected to a TV and keyboard, turning it into a full-fledged computer. Everyone is going to have a cellphone so we have no doubt that Gates is sincere in his desire to help get the world's poor connected. He was disappointed that Negroponte chose Linux for OLPC -- even after Gates offered an open-source version of Windows CE to power the laptop. A Windows-powered smartphone could get Microsoft back into the game and assist the man of the year with his efforts to help the downtrodden.

Yudhister you are thinking alot and for good only.I appreciate that.
Very true, it was a day when i was used to carry huge bag for school.

In western countries they have lockers to keep their books, so if our government cannot reduce the price of computers( so that every small kid is literate with it) then why don't they put locker system so that at least future generation will feel relieve from the huge bags....

By that i feel that locker system or what you told will be good for our future generation.......
