NEW DELHI:
Manvir Singh, a class X student, is quite clear that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his intrepid father, Naib Subedar Chunni Lal, despite having lost him to the bullets of militants in Jammu and Kashmir last year.
''I want to do what daddy has done. Maine unka naam roshan karna hai . My father was keen I should also join the army. I am studying hard to achieve his dream of joining as an officer through the National Defence Academy,'' says Manvir.
But with quiet dignity, he adds, ''My father had got a Sena Medal and Vir Chakra earlier for gallantry. Now, he has got the Ashok Chakra.'' And then, he looks at his mother Chintha Devi and two young sisters for support.
