View Full Version : Big kidney sale racket busted in Gurgaon

Five people, including a doctor, have been arrested from this Haryana town on the outskirts of the national capital on Thursday night for allegedly luring poor men from Uttar Pradesh and illegally selling their kidneys. Those involved are believed to have sold about 500 kidneys in the past six years.
Policemen from Gurgaon and Uttar Pradesh arrested the five people during a raid at a private hospital in Gurgaon.
Gurgaon police commissioner Mahender Lal said a doctor, identified as Upendra Kumar, ran the private hospital from a house in Sector 23 here.
The alleged mastermind of the racket, a surgeon called Amit Kumar, and two other doctors, Jeevan Kumar and Saraj, are absconding.

One more person has been arrested in the multi-crore kidney scam, the driver of Dr Upender, the doctor who was hand in glove with the kingpin Dr Amit Kumar, was nabbed from Palwal in Haryana.
Dr Amit, the mastermind is still on the run. The kidney racket and the mastermind behind it have been making headlines ever since it was exposed.
But the real focus is on those 500 odd labourers who were cheated into giving up their kidneys.
It was one of these men whose complaint made it possible to pinpoint the racket. But for him and many others, it is meant the loss of livelihood as well as health.

GURGAON:- The multi-crore kidney transplant racket appears to be getting murkier with each passing day with as many as ten hospitals and laboratories now coming under the scanner and at least five nurses and a score of other employees of two hospitals here being questioned for their alleged role in the illegal operations.
“We have identified five nurses and 20 employees of two hospitals of the accused and they are being interrogated for their role in the racket. Eight cars, including a Mercedes and a Honda City, have been recovered. These were used to ferry patients from the guest house to the Palam Vihar hospital. We have also come to know of two more hospitals as being part of the transplant racket. One of these hospitals is in Noida,” said Police Commissioner (Gurgaon) Mahender Lal at a press conference on Monday.

Interpol's Canada unit was in touch with its Indian counterpart to nab Amit Kumar, the alleged mastermind behind the multi-million dollar kidney racket in India who might have entered Canada illegally, sources say.
Amit Kumar alias Santosh Rameshwar Raut, who is under hunt worldwide, is reported to have slipped out of India through the porous Nepal border and then taken a flight to Canada.
