visa for attending conference

hi,
I am a third year mbbs student in chennai. Recently I got an invitation from a medical conference to which I had sent my project details. My question is what type of visa would I need? Is it a difficult thing to get such a visa? I have got international letter of invitation amd registration details from the conference people? What are my chences of getting rejected? Please reply as I dont know anything abouth these things!:)
