INDIA - CONVENTIONAL WAR ASYMMETRY
*
*
*
Modern day warfare technology which is privy to western powers and Russia, is slowly inching up towards Indian shores in the guise of amalgam of technologies like thrust vectoring system, powerful phased array radars, sophisticated avionics, precision guidance mechanism, and telemetry – some of the components that are embedded in our cruise missile BRAHMOS, also collectively (all cruise missiles) known as currency of power in conventional war parlance.

Talking about cruise missiles and other ballistic missiles as started during 1975 under Integrated Guided Missile Development Program which was the brainchild of late prime minister indra Gandhi whose endeavors have finally culminated fruitfully for Indians who have prized catch of the day – BRAHMOS – a deadly supersonic cruise missile which can alter the battlefield scenario a la stinger in Afghanistan which made the graveyard of Russian choppers.

Then came the procurement of SS-N- 22 sunburn missile by india( http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/india/sub/)

http://joevialls.net/subliminalsuggestion/tsunami.html

In her testimony before the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee, leading defence expert June Teuffel painted the following scenario:

QUOTE:

"Nine feet above water, traveling at twice the speed of sound, with a 200-kiloton nuclear warhead, the radar-guided Sunburn missile can weave its way through smaller ships until it reaches its real target - a US aircraft carrier. At the last instant, it would pop up from the ocean's surface, smash into the side of the carrier and set off a nuclear explosion six times as powerful as Hiroshima. The US Navy has nothing that can stop it."

This is the only missile that has hit the bulls eye during a test which was marked *X* on the bridge of the ship during a live demostrations, other missiles just hit the moving decoy or decommissioned tugs/vessels.

Had argentina possessed about fifty exocet missiles (instead of five which downed two UK frigates/destroyers) during the Falkland war or Guerra de las malvinas, they could have converted all british ships to underwater museums. Such is the ferocity of missiles in today’s conventional war asymmetry.

Our BRAHMOS during a recent text book trial, hit a perfect*one *among cluster of targets, leaving all other blocks, it hit the right one, intended for it to hit. Such is its accuracy and MACH power.
*
*
*
Now imagine punching a hole in one of the US aircraft carrier (which comprises of several sister escort ships) and rendering it in-operable or sinking it with couple of more strikes, that would change the course of any war.

*
US aircraft carriers or floating airports as they are known, which are the weapons of choice of USG,* that during the crisis any president is left asking where are our aircraft carriers, cause they don’t need any permission from host countries as they perform in international waters and not littoral.

More, when the adversary is cognizant of deadly power of its enemy, it thinks over and during the war crisis, changes the tough attitude, instead looks for the truce or middle ground.

Talking of USA:
*
*
US cant do everything on its own despite being a superpower. NASA is all cocktail with germans, greeks,Italian,Spanish, british Indians (number two is Indian).

Y2K was almost single handedly solved by indians who accounted for more than half of 210,000 H1B visas issued typically against this menace annually.

When Seymour Cray wanted to make the fastest computer of the world guess what? they did not have faster chips, not only in their inventory but in the whole USA, therefore they imported the chips from japan - yes japan (fujitsu or hitachi). Against this Japanese supercomputer companies are vertically integrated enterprises, manufacturing and integrating all components from circuits through systems.

On the defense related materials think this:
When US of A was secretly making its spy plane ( SR-71 aka blackbird ) by skunk works, US did not have enough titanium for whole fleet, 50 airframes, hence they imported*several tons from Russia (The landing gear of the blackbird is the largest piece of titanium ever forged in the world ).

Apollo made a history with swedish camera (hasleblad) and not american, Space Shuttle's robotic arm is proudly made in canada.

Vinod K dham is a father of a pentium chip,*C. Kumar N. Patel invented nitrogen carbon dioxide CO2 laser, Hargobind Khurana spliced gene, kalpana chawla became famous astronuat
*
*
Americans are vulnerable on their own, but its western nations with same value who co-op with each other on tech transfer and keep non white countries at arms length.

*
Although india’s blue water navy has long way to go, but if India is to retain its regional power status, it better keep up with changing technologies and weapons of choice to maintain the cutting edge technological advance, because the influence and the leverage matters in today’s power matrix with international ramifications.

If India has to play a big boy role, it must get inlisted at UNSC at any cost and rub shoulders with P-5 who wield tremendous clout.

But as I have said before and let me reiterate my pet phrase “ migs and mirages wont make any difference to India, Mir jafars of India ( a la SIMI ) *will “. Thirty three years without using our combat birds and our tanks against our external threat, whose shelf life has nearly expired, versus India’s fifth column ( about 100 some terrorist organizations listed at satp.org ) who is silently stabbing Indians within our borders and goes unpunished, Its time we join hands or perish we will.

Time to think 3 Dimenssionally.

so, you`d like to throw atom weapon to attack usa`s aircraft carrier!
it is the most typical asymmetry in a war!

Technically any ship however big can be crippled without atomic blast. Kinetic energy coupled with conventional explosives can do the job.
