I would say A. B. Vajpayee is the best choice given the current senario.
He's a seasoned politician and had changed the system for good.

It's a shame he did not get a chance to repeat his performance. And, now he's retired. Pity. :(

APJ Abdul Kalam is also an ideal candidate, but as you mentioned, it seems impossible.

I am for a younger or fit PM who is well-versed in national affairs and cares for the national interest. Kalam and Vajpayee are of the right mindset but they are too old. Manmohan Singh is old but fit but he is taking all wrong decisions and isn't independent enough. I myself don't see a good enough candiate for the post of PM. Maybe Chidambaram would make a good choice but with Sonia Gandhi not letting a PM function independently it's of no use.

I for one believe MMS has done a pretty good job considering the fact that he's got commies in the party.MMS in BJP/NDA would rule ;) .Atal Bihari and Advani can take care of politics while MMS can take care of the country.MMS has to be the most humble and hardworking PM we've ever got.BJP and MMS together can turn this country around.Minus Godhra BJP did a great job in their tenure.Atleast they had the balls to do something against terrorism unlike UPA which is all talks and no action(as far as internal security goes).

Manmohan Singh's been crap. Under him India is losing its nuclear weapons, he has brought in Mandal commission part-II, he almost messed things up in Nepal before turning around, he in short goes against all the collective wisdom of the country, its experts, its people who say one thing and MMS does another thing under advice of heaven knows who. The economy is still comfortable because of its own merit. UPA has regularly tried to stall reforms. He is anti-people. When he was elected PM the expectations from him were much. He is still considered to be of great integrity but under him India is creeping towards many disasters all at the same time.

Could you kindly provide some evidence of what you have said? Or, is it just hearsay? As far as my knowledge goes, Mr. Vajpayee never gave any such statements. Please always have proof before you quote someone.

I have very high regards for Mr. Vajpayee. India's economic growth is a gift to us by him. Compare the growth in the 40 odd year of Congress Raj and 5 years of BJP. The answer shoudl suffice.

Few more points will development of infrastructure and removing of poverty and unemployment and increase per capita income and also provide better sanitation and water and also develop the economy and military, build more indigenious technology, provide good medical care to everyone in this country and more and more.

Look what he has done with tiny state of Gujrat.Look at his stand on the Narmada Sarovar Dam.They've got the best infrastructure,villages are connected with highway,watersupply to remotest places,industries,one of world's largest oil refinery(Relaince,Jamnagar),making it the jewelry capital of the world etc.etc...
He's an A$$ hole for being incapable of saving lives of poor muslim none the less.

Buddhadeb on the other end like MMS has joined the wrong party.He's a capitalist in a commie camp.

Slash what has happened in Gujarat is not a contribution of Modi alone. For eg. jamnagar refinery is there since 80s.

Sardar Sarovar project on Narmada dam was due for completion in 1988. But the then chief minister of Gujarat and his followers never let it be completed because they were making lacs of rupees each day out of the project through bribes on tenders and purchase of raw materials. Now finishing the dam work is more of their political compulsion. Because there is a great pressure on the govt from independent people bodies and farmers there.to complete the project.

I have lived in ahmedabd and kolkata and my observation is that average gujrati is more hard working and a better enterpreneur then a average bengali. (exceptions are of course there). Its the people of gujarat and their zeal to have a better life thats bringing about these changes.

However i do agree with u on some points. He is a bastard when it comes to communalist ideas but hes also progressive minded. He has introduced swipe cards in vidhan sabha at gandhinagar to ensure punctuality in offices. MLAs in his own party oppose him because he never gave them proitable seats in the corporation where they could make under table money.

Connecting all the gram panchayats in gujarat through computers is another project in the pipeline. (its a different story that his gang has taken a lot of bribe in the said project) But atleast the work is happening.

But yes he has a dark side and he also knows that to occupy the seat of C.M. in gujarat he will have to work hard and bring about the progressive changes.

Switch on any news channel you'll see how important increasing the height of the dam is.The dam would provide water to millions of people of Kutchh and other rural parts of Gujrat for irrigation as well as household and industrial purposes. The recent floods shows the importance such projects.
What do u mean no help is being provided???They've got help help from from the states,centre and the supreme court. They'll be provided homes a million times better than they've got right now.Villages with schools and dispensaries.Dude Gujrat government is loaded with cash do you think they would have problem rehabilitating these problems.A village with around 10000 people can be rehabilitated at a cost of less than 100cr(with schools,housing,sanitation,electricity,water supply and compensation money).
